Splendida, MSC Cruises
Plana continues its voyage around the world. Vimar also alights MSC Splendida
Plana – in its white polymer version – sails the seas on board MSC Splendida, the new flagship of the MSC Crociere fleet. The new ship was inaugurated with great fanfare on Saturday, July 12, 2009, in the magnificent setting of the Port of Barcelona.
The ceremony included a spectacular show featuring performances by the Catalan maestro Carreras, accompanied by 60 musicians of the Vallès Symphony Orchestra and the most famous flamenco dancer in the world: Joaquìn Cortés. Even Amy Stewart, the famous soul singer participated in the event as the ambassador for UNICEF. Round out the ceremony were the officers parade and the much anticipated cutting of the ribbon in the colours of the Italian flag by the godmother: the international film legend, Sophia Loren. The entire event concluded with a marvellous fireworks display on the sea.
MSC Splendida and her twin MSC Fantasia, inaugurated in Naples the previous December, are the two largest ships ever constructed by a European shipyard. They are able to accommodate up to 3,959 passengers. They are veritable floating cities, 333 metres long, 66.8 metres wide, and weighing 137,936 tonnes.
The decision to install Plana is yet another confirmation of the success of this home series of devices, which sets itself apart from the competition through its ability to be applied to varying environments: from bedrooms to bathrooms, from corridors to large halls. The simple and ergonomic design, the beautiful yet easy-clean materials, the wide range of colours, the full range of functions and the nocturnal backlighting of the elegant laser-engraved symbols render Plana the perfect companion for a holiday in total comfort and well-being.
